Tonight I got the amazing opportunity to go to a Filipino cultural dance program at a restaurant called Barbara's. The group performed a variety of songs and dances, including some from their Spanish colonial heritage and others that are uniquely Filipino!
In this case, I think a picture really is worth a thousand words, so here they are:
She is spinning -- with a glass of water on her head! Never spilled a drop!
Every man in this band can also play all of the other instruments and they switched throughout the performance!
Waving a basket of money around during one dance!
The performers were both men and women.
Did you get to try any of the dances? Mom
ReplyDeleteA few people from our group did, but they didn't pick me! I guess they could tell that I'm uncoordinated :)
DeleteThe dancers were all very young and incredibly talented! Filipino people really value the arts and their traditions. I was glad that we got to see this!
ReplyDeleteHi Mrs.Sobek! I hope you are enjoying your trip! What is the clothing called that the dancers wear?
ReplyDeleteHi AnnaKate! That's a good question! They didn't really tell us. I know that most of the clothes were really influenced by the Spanish, so maybe it's a Spanish word.
DeleteHi Mrs.Sobek, hope you are enjoying the nice pool weather there! I was wondering if there is a certain age group that participates in these dances?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, but they all seemed very young to me. Maybe even teens or twenties. They are excellent at what they do!
DeleteHey Mrs. Sobek I hope your having fun. Those dancers look like their having fun.
